January 23 isn’t too early to talk about the 2024 Heisman Trophy college football betting odds, is it?
Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers is the early betting favorite to have his name called as the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner on the first Saturday in December.
Ewers was a mid-season betting favorite to win the 2023 Heisman Trophy but threw two costly interceptions against Oklahoma, essentially torpedoing his chances of winning college football’s most coveted individual award.
The Texas quarterback led the Longhorns to a 12-2 record, a Big 12 Championship, and a spot in the FCS playoffs. He also threw for 3479 yards with 22 scoring strikes alongside six interceptions with an additional 75 rushing yards and five TDs on 59 carries.
Ewer’s greatest competition will likely come from his own conference. Quarterback Carson Beck of the Georgia Bulldogs and Jalen Milroe of Alabama are also on the shortlist to hoist the 2024 Heisman.
Beck dazzled during his junior year at Georgia, leading the Bulldogs to a regular season conference championship before falling in the SEC title game to Milroe and the Crimson Tide. Beck threw for 3941 yards with 24 scoring strikes against six interceptions. He also scampered for an additional 116 yards with four TDs.
Oregon Ducks quarterback Dillon Gabriel was a 2023 Heisman betting favorite for a short time but will be joining his third university in as many seasons. He’s thrown for 13,000+ passing yards as a member of the UCF Knights and Oklahoma Sooners and over 1000 career rushing yards.
Former Kansas State signal caller Will Howard transferred originally to Washington but left after former head coach Caled DeBoer became the Alabama head coach. Howard chose to bring his 5000+ career passing yards and 700+ rushing yards to Columbus. He’ll have a big-time wideout named Emeka Egbuku to throw to and a stout offensive line to work behind for Ohio State.
Milroe led Alabama to the FCS playoffs before falling to national champion Michigan at the Rose Bowl. Milroe slung it for 2834 yards with 23 TDs and six miscues but added 263 rushing yards and a TD. He’ll have a new head coach with a new system to learn, but he’s a dual-threat quarterback playing behind what should be one of the best offensive lines in the college game.
