Week 10 Heisman Watch: Penix Jr. overtakes McCarthy at BetMGM

As predicted last week, Michigan Wolverines quarterback J.J. McCarthy’s time at the top of the BetMGM Sportsbook leaderboard is over, at least for now.

It took less than a week for Washington Huskies quarterback Michael Penix Jr. to reclaim the top spot on the BetMGM leaderboard. Penix Jr. threw for 369 yards and four touchdowns in the Huskies' 42-33 away victory over Stanford, while McCarthy and the Wolverines were idle during Week 9.

Michael Penix Jr. QB Washington Huskies +275

Michael Penix Jr. leads the country in passing yards, and his talents were on full display in the Huskies’ 42-33 away victory over Stanford. He’s also thrown the third-most TD passes nationally, which is why Washington is undefeated this season.

Next Up: Washington heads to USC for a showdown with Caleb Williams and the USC Trojans.

J.J. McCarthy QB Michigan Wolverines +300

J.J. McCarthy and the Wolverines were idle in Week 9, and if you want value on McCarthy, you should wait at least one more week. Penix Jr. and Washington have a tasty matchup with a bad USC defense during Week 10. Penix will likely put up big numbers, and McCarthy’s odds will decrease no matter how the Wolverines quarterback performs at home against Purdue.

Next Up: The No. 2 Wolverines host Purdue in a Week 10 Big Ten matchup.

Jayden Daniels QB LSU Tigers +450

Jayden Daniels and the No. 15-ranked Tigers were idle during Week 9, but the LSU gunslinger leads the nation in touchdown passes and has thrown only three interceptions over 223 passing attempts. With a big Week 10 result against No. 9 Alabama, he could overtake McCarthy and Penix Jr.

Next Up: The No. 15 Tigers travel to Tuscaloosa for an SEC matchup with No. 9 Alabama.

Bo Nix QB Oregon Ducks +600

Bo Nix rejoined the top five on the BetMGM leaderboard after a dazzling Week 9 performance in the Ducks 35-6 away victory over No. 13 Utah. Nix threw a pair of scoring strikes and scampered for another against an outstanding Utes defense. The Oregon gunslinger has thrown for the 12th most passing yards and fifth most TD passes this season. His odds could also improve, as Oregon hosts a bad California defense.

Next Up: The Ducks host California in an important Pac-12 contest.

Jordan Travis QB Florida State Seminoles +800

Jordan Travis saw his odds improve after the Seminoles signal-caller accounted for four first-half touchdowns in the Seminoles’ 41-16 away victory over Wake Forest. The FSU quarterback doesn’t have the sexy numbers as the others but has thrown only two interceptions over the last 253 attempts for the undefeated Seminoles.

Next Up: The No. 4 Seminoles travel to Pittsburgh for an important ACC matchup for both schools.
