Week Seven Heisman Trophy Watch: Major Shakeups at the Top of Betting Board

Week 6 was a tumultuous time for the Heisman Trophy betting favorites, as Longhorns QB Quinn Ewers fell out of the top five. At the same time, Washington QB Michael Penix Jr seized the top spot on the Caesars Sportsbook betting board over former favorite USC QB Caleb Williams.

Michael Penix Jr, QB Washington Huskies (+200)

Michael Penix Jr. is second in the country in passing yards, with the third most TD passes in five games. The Huskies were off this week, but that didn’t prevent sports bettors from placing more bets on him than Williams.

Next Up: Pennix Jr and the Huskies welcome No. 8 ranked Oregon and Heisman contender Box Nix to Husky Stadium for a Saturday afternoon matchup.

Caleb Williams QB USC Trojans (+225)

Caleb Williams struggled mightily in Saturday’s 3OT home victory against Arizona. The reigning Heisman Award winner threw for 219 yards with a TD and an additional 41 rushing yards with three TDs, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Pennix from overtaking him.

Next Up: USC travels to South Bend for a matchup with Sam Hartman and Notre Dame next Saturday at 7:30 pm ET.

Bo Nix QB Oregon Ducks (+600)

Bo Nix and the Ducks had a bye week for Week 6, but Nix saw a huge jump in his odds, probably anticipating next Saturday’s showdown with Washington. Nix has thrown the 8th most TD passes through five games and could make another leap if the Ducks can beat Washington.

Next Up: The Ducks travel to Washington for a Pac-12 matchup with Pennix and the Huskies.

Dillon Gabriel QB Oklahoma Sooners (+1200)

Dillon Gabriel replaced Ewers in the top five after leading No. 12 Oklahoma past No. 3 Texas last Saturday in the Red River Rivalry game. Gabriel is 6th in passing yards and tied for 3rd in TD passes. Gabriel could overtake the leaderboard if he continues this pace and the Sooners continue to win.

Next Up: Gabriel and the Sooners have a bye week before hosting UCF on October 21.

Jordan Travis QB Florida State Seminoles (+1600)

Jordan Travis remained in the 5th spot but saw his odds decrease after throwing for 170 yards with a pair of scoring strikes in the Seminoles’ 39-7 home win over Virginia Tech. Travis has thrown just one interception against a dozen scoring strikes for the No. 4 ranked Seminoles.

Next Up: The Seminoles host Syracuse on Saturday, which will be a great opportunity for Travis to put on a show for the voters.
